A pursuit that ends in a crash ends the scene with it. A tracker dart keeps it running instead: the car drives away, and the unit that fired follows it on the map from a distance nobody has to hold in a rear-view mirror.
Firing and following
One configurable key fires a dart at a vehicle. A second opens the tracking overlay, where the tagged car shows on a blip you can style to match the rest of your mapping. Single-dart mode keeps one tag live at a time, and firing a new dart clears the last one automatically.
Kit that has to be carried
Darts can be made a supply problem rather than a free ability. Vehicles carry a set number, a tracking system can be required — installed from an inventory item before any dart will fire — and the vehicles allowed to carry that system can be limited to your marked and unmarked fleet.
Ending the trace
Every dart can be set to burn out after a configurable time, so a tag does not follow a car around for the rest of the session. Officers can also walk up to a tagged vehicle and pull the dart off by hand.
Fitting it in
Dart use is restricted by job, so police and sheriff units get it and nobody else does. Dart behaviour, capacity, overlay keys and blip styling are all config, and the resource is written to sit quietly in the background between deployments.
